1. PLAYA DE COFETE

The beaches of Fuerteventura are among the most beautiful in Europe. Playa de Cofete is especially beautiful, because the surroundings of the 12-kilometer-long beach are free of buildings and you have the chance to enjoy the wild beauty of its landscape. The fine white sand and turquoise water alone are worth the trip, but there is still much more to discover: the mountain massif “Macizo de Jandía” (with the highest mountains of Fuerteventura) located in the east of the beach, the large vertical rock “Roque del Moro” which emerges from the middle of the sea, the mysterious Villa Winter and the small village of Cofete with fish restaurants, a viewpoint and a small museum. The journey to be beach is a little bit difficult, but a walk on the beach in Cofete is a must for any visitor to the island. Fuerteventura is known for its beautiful beaches: the beaches of Corralejo, the beach of Sotavento, Costa Calma, Gran Tarajal, Esquinzo, the beaches of El Cotillo and Solana del Matorral are only some of the most popular.

The 400-meter-high mountain “Montaña de Tindaya” is located in the north of Fuerteventura and is one of the most important natural monuments of the island. Thanks to its color which is different from the surrounding landscape and the flat environment, it is already visible from afar. The mountain is of volcanic origin and the erosion of the strata brought the beautiful gray-brown stone trachyte to the surface. Until recently, the stone was extracted. The panel on the main building of the airport of Fuerteventura consists of trachyte from Tindaya. “Montaña de Tindaya” already had a special significance for the natives of Fuerteventura as you can find up to 400 stone carvings on the mountain. Almost all of these represent footprints, pointing towards the west, to the island of Tenerife. Its significance is not yet clear, but it is believed that the natives of Fuerteventura thought that the devil lives inside of “Teide”, the highest mountain in Spain (located in Tenerife, which can be seen from the top of “Montaña de Tindaya”). A fascinating destination!

The small island “Islote de Lobos” is located in the north of Fuerteventura, only 2 kilometers away.
